Ireland 2006, Day 4

It is the morning of Saturday the 8th of July and again first the cyclists leave and after that M and me get on the road. The weather is not great and we start walking and hitchhiking in a light drizzle, which would soon turn into heavy rains. I had put on my sandals, and was wearing this cheap plastic poncho I had bought in Dublin. The damn thing kept flapping around in the wind making me crazy, and not a single person showed any interest in picking us up. Only one bus a week stops in Annestown so we really didn’t have much choice. It took over an hour before a car pulled over, but then our luck changed. The guy behind the wheel was just returning from his parents’ house heading back to Cork where he lived and worked. He didn’t mind getting in to Cork and dropping us off at the bus station. We talked about Irish economy, house prices, pubs in Cork and Britain compared to the mainland. He was a really interesting guy, and we were more or less dry again when he dropped us off in Cork.

Having saved so much time, me and M decided there was no need to rush. We would get into cork and treat ourselves to nice dinner, after which we’d either find a hostel or get to Millstreet. We found a place not too expensive and I had a great lasagna. We got back to the bus station and checked out the hours and prices. Unfortunately the next bus to Millstreet would only leave two hours and a half later. Nevertheless we decided to wait for it. On the bus I finished reading the book I’d bought in Dublin only two days earlier. It was still raining the whole time, but more or less had stopped by the time we arrived in Millstreet. We got to the convention which hadn’t officially started yet, although the hall was already pretty full with jugglers. We made it! We put up our tent somewhere in the back of the camping, enjoyed dinner and went into a deep dreamy sleep. End of day four.
