There’s a really interesting on-line petition going on. It’s about strategic US nuclear weapons on European grounds. Within a few weeks all the foreign ministers of the NATO are meeting in Sofia (Bulgaria). It’s an informal meeting as a preparation for the big meeting in Riga at the end of november, where the NATO plans to reveal a “New Strategical Concept”.

Did you know that 480 US nuclear warheads are stationed in European countries? That’s 480 weapons of mass destruction folks, 480 potential Hiroshimas and Nagasakis. Time hasn’t stood still since Little Boy was dropped back in 1945, and you know how they are in the pentagon, always keen on new toys. If one of these buggers goes off, we haven’t seen the end of it yet. No doubt the country “hosting” these WMD’s (think Germany, think Belgium) will be dragged into the conflict. So if the neo-cons can’t hold their horses, we might be involved in WW III before you can say “infidels”!

Wouldn’t it be nice if some courageous foreign minister stood up and politely suggested to get these bombs off our lands? What better moment than at this meeting where the first steps towards this great New Strategical Concept are taken? Do the right thing, Sign the petition!
